Stella Mitchell - A Good Time Never Had - 94 Page Art Book
Stella Mitchell presents 'A Good Time Never Had', a collection of items bought but never used, surviving to this day. Each taken from her extensive personal collection, which lies separate from her nationally renowned Land of Lost Content museum, now sadly closed.
Through a series of handwritten accounts, accounts Stella takes us through their possible histories – tales of unrequited love, domestic neglect and changing fashions – with charm and no little humour, paired with beautiful full colour photographs of the items themselves by Eric Loveland Heath. Things that should have been used, enjoyed then thrown away. And why they weren't, perhaps.
Layout by Victoria Clinton and Eric Loveland Heath, digital photography by Eric Loveland Heath, handwritten vignettes and self portrait by Stella Mitchell, cover image by Stella and David Mitchell, foreword John Short.
Of interest to anyone with an interest in pop culture, especially previous visitors to the Land of Lost Content museum.
Printed and produced in the UK.
About the Author:
Born in Birmingham in the West Midlands, Stella Mitchell is an assemblage artist and dedicated collector of popular culture. Her museums Rejectaments and the widely loved Land of Lost Content in Craven Arms (now sadly closed) are just part of her wider influence on art, fashion and cultural ephemera.
Through her books 'Great British Rubbish (2018)', 'Spinning the Trencher' (2020), and 'He Promised Her a Museum' (2026), Stella has explored this curious relationship between people and the items they purchase and produce, a life long desire which continues to this day.
Along with her extensive personal collection, Stella and her husband David reside in the town of Craven Arms, South Shropshire.
Available as an eBook (pdf), and from our Plenty Wenlock Records Bandcamp site (icon below).
Critical and academic praise for 'A Good Time Never Had':
"Stella Mitchell is a legend among collectors"
Professor Annebella Pollen (The University of Brighton)
"The book (A Good Time is Never Had) is as I would expect of Stella - taking seemingly quirky or mundane objects and breathing life back into them for a new generation. Her take on the world is nothing, if not unique, and always hilarious!"
Professor Teal Triggs (The Royal College of Art)
